The Dish: The mixed slice kebab consists of the beef, lamb and chicken. Mixture of the meats together with half a pita bread, salad and custom cooked rice. The salad is finised off with home made garlic sauce and chilli sauce.

The serving is good for one person.

Good Points: The best part of this kebab is you get to try all the meats which they have on their menu. The tasty meat is very well marinated. It is a well balance meal, with salad and pita bread. The portion of meat is also generous. Other than the mixed slice kebab, they have other forms of kebab, such as the shish kebab, pide and the common pita roll. They also have turkish deserts and drinks. It is a full pack Turkish restaurant run by turkish chefs, the original taste and flavours. The chefs are friendly, occassionally pulling a joke with customers.

Points to improve: Being located in East Coast, dinner time is quite a hassel to get there due to the jam along the small service roads. Dinner time is usually packed with customers and if your late, you probably have to wait some time to get a seat. Ordering is self service, but they have waiters to serve your food. Food is usually ready in about 10-15mins. The price is acceptable, comparing it to other turkish restaurants in the market today.

Briyani at Al Ameen

Name: North Indian Biryani Dum (Chicken)
Location: 30 Woodlands Avenue 1, The Woodgrove Food Centre
Price: $5.00
Rating: 8/10

This evening's article is about Al Ameen at woodlands. A nice place in the north to have supper and catch up with friends. It is a one stop restaurant serving all types of food. Wester, North Indian, South Indian, Seafood, etc. It is a family restaurant where you can bring your family out here for dinner too.

Good Points:
The taste of the Briayni Dum is authentic. The style of presentation and cooking is also unique, and preserves the Indian culture in their food. Its as if you are really eating in an Indian store in Little India. The service is fast and efficient. The food is served really hot and fresh, unlike some places they just scoop the rice out of a big pot which could have been there since morning. Here at Al Ameen, they cook the rice and a chicken in a small pot, and served together with the pot!! The meal comes with dhal, an indian curry, and also yoghurt mixed with cucumbers and some fruits. The serving is also filling for a hungry person like me.The toilets are very clean and mordern too, hygiene standards for the toilet is great!!

Points to Improve: The place is quite packed most of the time. The ambience is very similar to urban coffeeshops. The furniture are quite old and very basic, not as appealing as the new coffeeshops which you see, such as Kopitiam or Banquet.

Conclusion: Generally a nice place to dine in, with so many varieties of food to choose from. The service is great, however the ambience could improve with the furnishings. A place I would return to for more food.!!

Out Of Singapore

Name: Singgah Selalu Restaurant

Address: 36-F, Jalan Skudai, Danga Bay, Johor Bahru, Malaysia 80200

Opening Hours: 6am - 2am

This article is a slightly special one cos its taken out of Singapore. Along the coastal bay of Malaysia, this place is known as Singgah Selalu, meaning "Hang Out Always". It is just approximately 10-15 mins drive from the check point. Its a really nice and cosy place to dine in with all sorts of food you can find here. Ranging from Chinese Food, even Tim Sum, Western Food, Malay Nasi Padang, Satay, Otak Otak, BBQ seafood, and many more!!! It gives us alot of convenience and variety when it comes to choosing what you want to eat at this place. Prices are also affordable, infact to us Singaporeans may consider cheap compared to what we have back home.

Me and my buddy decided to try their malay dishes, for me Nasi Goreng Cendawan which costs RM6.00. As the name suggests in Malay, it is fried rice with mushrooms. It has a total of 5 assortments of mushrooms, cooked in spicy sauce with onions and garlic to give it a strong taste. The assortment of mushrooms is what makes the dish unique, making me guess the type of mushroom I am eating.

My buddy Amin had his usual favourite Nasi Daging Merah, quite common in Singapore's halal restaurants. Beef served in red sauce together with white rice. The amount of rice was generous together with the tender meat which is garnished with some green pepper to add up to the spicyness of the dish. Cost of the dish, RM5.50, cheaper than any stall in Singapore.

Other great entertainments was the ambience of the place, the lights were dimmed, and music was played through out to create a relaxed feeling. Me and Amin were enjoying our sheesha which costs RM16.00 and tea-O ice. The feeling was really relaxing and you could put your mind off whatever was happening across the malacca straights (Singapore). Lolx, a place you must try during the weekends.

Wanton Mee at Mr Teh Tarik Geylang

Name: Wonton Mee
This morning's article is on Wonton Mee. A chinese dish which has been made halal over the years of innovation by people. The main ingredients in Wonton Mee is basically wanton itself, soup to go along, some leafy vegetables, noodles and of course barbequed meat or Char Siew.

Picture of Mr Teh Tarik Across the Road

Mr Teh Tarik Eating House is located along Changi Road just beside the junction of Onan road. It is a eatery hard to miss as it is very prominent along the street if you were to travel along Changi Road towards Geylang Road. Mr Teh Tarik Eating House is a one stop place for all to try all sorts of food, such as western food, chicken rice, fried banana fritters and so on.

Good Points: The best part of the Wonton Mee was the taste of the sauce which was mixed together by the chef. The sauce is the important part of the whole dish as it gave taste to the noodles and everything in it. The spicyness was just right and the sauce was not too thick either making the taste too concentrated. Another aspect of eating Wonton Mee is that you have to mix the noodles with the sauce well in order to have a well mixed dish. Thats the interactive part of your meal where you mix the noodles and feel as if you are the chef. *LOL* Another great fact is that the price is rather affordable, infact any dish which basically costs $3.00 is considered to be rather cheap these days. So if you are on a budget, you could consider Wonton Mee.

Points to Improve: The eating house is usally packed on weekends in the evenings. Thus, it maybe difficult to get a seat of your choice. The service mode is self-service, due to the crowd, you may need to queue for up to 5-10mins for your drink, since there is only one drink stall in the eating house. Generally, it is like a coffeeshop, but with better toilet facilities and a cleaner environment.

Ayam Penyek Lucky Plaza

Name: Nasi Ayam Penyet

Location: Lucky Plaza Ria

Price: $6.50

Nasi Ayam Penyet at Lucky plaza, on level 3 is another place of recommendation in Yok-Makan today.. Located in the heart of Orchard road, where many other Indonesian restaurants are located.

Good Points: The meal comes with a chicken part of your choice, rice and vegetable soup. The chilli used is extra spicy, so good news for chilli lovers. Furthermore the dish is angled more to the Indonesian style of cooking thus making it a signature dish. They also have side dishes, such as prawn crackers to go along at $1.00 for a small basket of it as shown in the pic. They have a different form of ordering where you fill up a form for your order. The place is generally clean, and service is generally good.

Points to Improve: The price is abit pricey due to the location of the restaurant. It costs about $2.50 more than the average stall outside. Other than the price, the service, the taste and all other aspects are generally up to expectations. Probably if you are around town and felt a craving for Nasi Ayam Penyek, this could be the place for you !!

Name: Nasi Ayam Penyet
Location: Hougang Plaza
Price: $4.00
Rating: 6/10

Hougang Plaza Nasi Ayam Penyet, one of the popular destinations for dwellers around hougang area to stop for Nasi Ayam Penyet. Used to be known previously as Joe corner. Located beside the Kopitiam of Hougang Plaza.

Good Points: The chicken is really crispy and golden brown. Good presentation of the dish as a whole, makes you increase your appetite. The sambal tastes really good, it is unique to its own store which goes well with the chicken and rice. The service is pretty fast, and the store opens till quite late, so you can go there for supper.

Points to improve: Chicken may at times be a little raw as they don't want to over cook the chicken. However, they will only re-cook your chicken which you had at first. They wont give you a new chicken. Limited seats in the area as there are only 3 food stalls there.

Nasi Goreng Daging at Bedok

Name: Nasi Goreng Sambal Daging
Location: Bedok Road (Simpang Bedok), New Hawa Restaurant
Price: $5.00
Rating: 7/10

New Hawa Restaurant is located along Bedok Road, off Upp Changi Road. The restaurant carries a wide variety of food, ranging from noodle dishes, rice, and also seafood. You could also purchase white rice with dishes as well. But in this post I shall just focus on the Nasi Goreng Sambal Daging, a favourite choice of mine when i visit New Hawa.
Good Points: It offers a fairly generous amount of beef in the dish. The meat is sliced thinly to ensure that it is easily chewable and well cooked. The rice portion is also generous, and would definitely made me feel rather full after finishing the meal. Other ingredients such as some vegetables in the dish and of course green chilli to go with it. The service is rather fast and they send your food piping hot.
Points to Improve: However what it lacks is personally, the spicyness, as I personally enjoy really spicy food, and the taste maybe a bit bland for some people.

Welcome to Yok Makan!!

Welcome to Yok Makan!!
